My idea stemmed from my visit to the MUDACs exhibition, "What will I be reading?". Rachel Suming's QR code mural inspired me to generate a piece working with QR codes to reveal something.

My initial idea was to create a jungle themed mural with hidden QR codes that when scanned would reveal a illustrated hybrid jungle animal.

After my first tutorial I decided to create a more immersive experience. In the image below I have tried to illustrate my idea. I will create what I can only describe as a hollow cylinder you can go inside and be surrounded by futuristic jungle patterns. The QR codes will be hidden amongst the patterns, you can then scan the codes and an illustrated hybrid animal will pop up with information on that creature.

Because this project is on narrative I have chosen to focus primarily on the creation of the animals and their back story.

The narrative being, humans have long since fled the earth to find a new home in space. A group of scientists interested in what has happened to life on earth decide to send probes down to investigate. A group of Zoologists and illustrators collaborate to produce a digital field guide, accessible to everyone, to educate the new generation of humans of the development of life. Animals of the Amazon and the Congo jungle were the first to be investigated and documented.

For this project I have created the online field guide, my aim for my FMP is to develop this idea and create the immersive installation as illustrated above.

I have created three hybrid animals for this project and hope to create more for the next project, now i am more confident in the narrative. Below are my illustrations.

I have named each creature and created an online field guide on them, the link is below. This is what I wish to present in my Crit tomorrow. I will also explain my plan for my FMP.
